Senior pictures near Denver.

When to book, ideas to try and what to bring, from Mily & Danny in Genesee, 25 minutes west of Denver.

Step 1

When to take them

Most seniors take portraits the summer before or the fall of senior year.

  1. Summer and early fallLong evenings, warm light and plenty of time before yearbook deadlines.
  2. Check your yearbook deadlineMany schools ask for senior photos in the fall or early winter. Ask yours before you book, and leave time for editing.
  3. Spring, in cap and gownGraduation photos in April and May, often with snow still on the peaks behind you.

Step 2

Ideas to try

A few shots that make senior pictures feel like you.

  1. On the deck with the peaks behind youThe classic, best at golden hour.
  2. Walking through the pinesNatural, relaxed photos in the forest shade.
  3. Something that's yoursYour instrument, jersey, letter jacket, artwork or your dog.
  4. Seated on the stone wallA relaxed portrait on the patio, with the view beyond.

Step 3

What to bring

Two or three outfits, from casual to dressy. There's a bathroom inside for changing, and the spots are a minute's walk apart.

Comfortable shoes between spots, a layer for after sunset, and a parent or friend to help with outfits and make you laugh.

Step 4

Time it to the light

For the warmest light, book the two hours before the sun goes behind the peaks.

Golden hour

Soft, warm light and glowing skies. The favorite for senior portraits.

Step 5

Bring your people

Sessions are small, up to about 6 people plus your photographer, so there's room for a parent, a best friend or two, and the family dog.

Plan your senior photos

Bring your own photographer, have Danny take your photos, or ask us for names of local photographers whose work we like.
